I have raised the issue of a nuclear detonation on American soil with some family and friends on multiple occasions.  Some of the answers I get are, "It could never happen," or "I'm just going to let the radiation or the blast kill me."  What they don't think about is the collapse of society afterward.

A person can only live a short time without water. In an emergency situation having water will be crucial for survival, but you will also need to know how to treat that water to make it safe for drinking. Here are six ways to treat water to make it safe for drinking. Please note that none of these methods removes chemical contamination or heavy metals.
