Below are two videos that demonstrate how a person can build a water filtration system pretty inexpensively.  I have built a couple two gallon water filters using food grade buckets and the Waterdrop replacement filters, linked above, and gave them to family members.  The buckets can be purchased at many different stores including Walmart and Lowes.  Just make sure they are food grade.  The spigots are linked below the videos.
