How to Make Homemade Herbal Cough Syrup

Image
Authored by Daisy Luther via The Organic Prepper I’ve been making my own cough syrup for years to support my family with anything from a little tickle to a full-on cough. The recipe has changed a bit over the years, especially once I began traveling internationally. I’ve taken a little bit from my Southern mountain upbringing, the Balkan Peninsula in Europe, and Mexico and combined it into a very useful mixture. (Please excuse the awkward wording in this article – the FDA has extremely strict rules about how one can write about remedies that have been around for centuries.) This being said, I’m not a doctor, and this isn’t medical advice. I’d been making honey-lemon cough syrup for years. You can  find that recipe here . It’s pretty effective and soothing. Then I got sick when I was living in Europe. I went to the pharmacy determined to purchase a familiar-looking bottle of purple cough syrup for the deep, bronchial cough I’d developed right before arriving in Montenegro. The pharm...

SHTF survival: How to get home after an EMP attack

Image
Authored by Zoey Sky via bugout.news When preparing before SHTF, make sure you also have plans on what to do if you get stuck elsewhere after an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack. This ensures that you have survival gear and that you can safely get home even if things go south. (h/t to  TheSurvivalMom.com ) What is an EMP? An  electromagnetic pulse  is a  burst of electromagnetic radiation  from large explosions, especially nuclear explosions or from a magnetic field fluctuation. EMPs can produce damaging current and voltage surges within electrical systems, which can put your appliances and gadgets at risk. In Ted Koppel’s book “Lights Out,” the author warned that the nation’s leaders have done “virtually nothing” to protect the power grid from “any type of attack, nor are there effective plans in place to help the millions of citizens who will be completely unprepared.” When researching his book, Koppel interviewed people in the know, such as Janet ...

Survival first aid: How to treat knife injuries when you can’t call 911

Image
Authored by Zoey Sky via Bugout.news Most prepper kits include a survival knife for various uses. However, knife wounds are among the most common wilderness injuries and there is also the risk of stab wounds. When disaster strikes, you won’t always be able to call 911. Before SHTF, you should learn  how to properly treat a knife injury  or stab wound to prevent infections. (h/t to  PrimalSurvivor.net ) Help the victim lie down Knife wounds are unusual because victims don’t always notice their injuries until later due to a surge of adrenaline and extreme stress. If you’re the one administering first aid, you can take advantage of the patient’s initial shock period and get them to lie down. Doing this has some benefits: Depending on the location of the injury, the patient won’t be able to see the knife wound while lying down. This will help them stay calm. It can help reduce the risk of injury from falls due to dizziness. It will help stabilize the patient. B...
